O.N.G.3 at Counterpublic’s Inaugural Triennial

O.N.G.3 was selected to host the closing celebration of Counterpublic 2019, a triennial based in St. Louis, Missouri and launched by The Luminary. The event was free and open to the public, spanned two-stories and featured a mix of visual art and musical performances from Indiana-native He Valencia, Philadelphia-based BEARCAT, St. Louis resident RA Child, Venezuelan artist Dwight Portocarrero, St. Louis-based artist collective Biota, and with spatial and visual direction from St. Louis-based artist and curator, Katherine Simóne Reynolds.

Counterpublic 2019 was a triennial scaled to a neighborhood. Centered around Cherokee Street in South St. Louis, Counterpublic 2019 brought ambitious contemporary art commissions to the barbershops, bakeries, parks, and taquerias that anchor the neighborhood and act as gathering spaces.

The project centered on a series of fifteen site-responsive commissions in venues as divergent as a car audio store, tea shop, punk club, former sanctuary, Buddhist temple, Mexican panaderia, an community-organized park and basketball court. Works ranged from architectural interventions to archival community-led sessions, meal-based gatherings to dramatic public processions.
